How PowerWatch Collects Outage Information

PowerWatch aggregates information from multiple independent sources. No single source is treated as definitive unless explicitly labeled.

Community Reports

Users submit power status reports through the website. These reports are anonymous and aggregated. A single community report is labeled POSSIBLE. Multiple consistent reports from different users increase confidence.

Web Sources

PowerWatch monitors public web pages from utility operators for outage-related announcements. This is automated monitoring of publicly available information, not an official data feed.

Status Labels

• POSSIBLE: One or a few community reports; not yet verified.
• DETECTED: Multiple consistent reports from different locations.
• COMMUNITY REPORT: Confirmed by multiple user reports but not by an official source.
• RESTORING: Reports indicate power is being restored.
• RESTORED: Reports indicate power has been restored.
• RESOLVED: Outage is no longer active.
